Hogueras de San Juan - Torrevieja
Last night was the “Hogueras de San Juan” (Fesitval of St John) in Spain.
As I’m still here I thought a visit was in order, but decided to forgo the whole jumping over flames part in preference to a couple of Cañas of lager in a nice bar overlooking the marina (a Caña is a glass containing about a fifth of a pint of lager - a waste of time if you ask me) before heading into the...
Q: Why are you typing it all in capitals?
A: Because Moira’s blind.

It should be obvious to those who have looked through past postings on this site that I am quite a big Tim Minchin fan.
This song (and hilarious video) has to go down as one of his best. It is seriously NSFW. If you are easily offended by gratuitous use of the F word, then you should a) not watch this and b) grow up :)
Update: switched to a vimeo embed as the youtube link is now behind an...

Outnumbered quote
Dad: (playing table tennis with Ben) Come on, Ben, you're not losing by much. Let's play.
Ben: I'm not playing. [He walks off]
Dad: Ben, it's very important in sport not just to walk off when you are losing. What does Wayne Rooney do when he's losing?
Ben: He kicks people …

How to go directly to a database in phpMyAdmin
I’ve struggled with this for a while, and didn’t think to actually look at the URLs phpMyAdmin uses.
So, in order to save other people the hassle of finding a particular database within 42 pages of database names (assuming that, like me, you are running WPMU on a 4096 database setup), I shall pass along the simplest of solutions.
First find the common prefix that your databases are...

I've lapsed
I’ve lapsed and I feel terrible. I started the year with such high hopes, well to be honest I ended last year with high hopes for this year. I signed up for Project 52 last december in order to “incentivise” myself to write more frequently.
So excited was I, that I created three other sites that I intended to fill with my wisdom. Needless to say, I haven’t posted weekly...

Offsite assets WordPress plugin
There comes a point in the life of every website when the amount of traffic surpasses the power of the poor little web-server.
Thankfully there are ways of delaying the move to a larger, more powerful but ultimately more expensive server. A few of which are invaluable for websites that have infrequent surges of traffic.
Step one - cache, cache and cache again.
WordPress is, quite frankly,...

Well, I can only imagine that there must be a shortage of quality mug-based websites in the world today, if an iPhone picture of my beloved Guinness coffee mug can make the first page of google for the phrase “guinness thermal mug”.

Getting excited by spanners?
Every once in a while I get this feeling that I don’t belong, that I am working in an industry that I have no interest in.
One of my early childhood memories was visiting the local computer shop to pick my first computer. It all started after my mother had been told by a gypsy tarot card reader that I was destined to make my fortune with a keyboard. Not wanting to inflict the life of a...

Oh look he's back
It is often remarked that you can’t keep a good man down. Not that I’m claiming goodness in any way, shape or form.
One month ago exactly,I closed up the old clearskys.net site and blog on the hunt for new, correctly spelt, pastures. After four weeks of domain dropping, moving, re-visioning and registering, I find myself sitting here in my newly designed home, with the freedom to be...
